The old city of Kabul, Murad Khani.
Turquoise Mountain, a non-profit reviving Afghan traditional arts and architecture, invited me to Kabul to meet and collaborate with their local artisans.
The non-profit has built a health centre for the community and a school for its young people, returning life to the old city’s ancient bazaar.
I was also tasked to bring back a bespoke artisan order for HRH Prince of Wales.
From a day trip to Istālif. The village was unfortunately destroyed due to conflict in the past decades, but still retains its renown as one of the most beautiful places in Afghanistan.
Through my work with Artisan & Fox, I was shown a different side of Afghanistan not shown on the news.
Together with the artisans, I designed a product line for Artisan & Fox, inspired by the Minaret of Jam, Afghanistan’s only UNESCO Heritage Site. This is the RUKH Handcarved Earrings.
The MINARET Pendant Necklace, featuring lapis lazuli from the ancient mines of Badakshan in Northern Afghanistan.
Afghanistan’s soils are rich with precious minerals. This is chrysocolla, also known as Bamiyan turquoise.
The pieces were inspired by geometry found in the ancient Minaret of Jam. This is the SHAHRAK Earrings.
